EVÉNEMENTS VÉLOS, PASSÉS ET À VENIR (12)

[Cet article sera traduit en français....un jour ]

Last August I went to 2 bike events :

One was in Omotesando, it was a mini bicycle market organized next to an organic farm market.

Tomity San, Keirin Ambassador and young retired of the pro racing life, had his booth there.

This is how Tomity San arranged his bike now, more comfortable than the racing set-up but still on Kalavinka! (a folding one)

Second event was near yoyogi koen in Shibuya, on August the 18. Not even 2 minutes I was there that I met again Tomity San, we talked longer. He explained me how he ended-up to be the maker of the helmet wore by Francesco Moser for his hour record, amazing!

Blue Lug booth, I like this saddle, reminds me of "La Vie Claire" team in the 80's lead by Bernard Hinault.

Now maybe more interesting up-coming events :

And I am lucky with these ones cause they will both take place in Yokohama! Yeah!

First one is Hama bike, it looks like it will quite a big event. It will take place on Saturday the second of October.

The program looks awesome  :

- Bike market
- Bike polo with "lesson" for beginners, I may try that.
- MTB Trial
- BMX flatland contest
- Art exhibition
- Gold sprint on a boat!! Wow I want to try that! [with DJ's etc..]
- Movies projection (BFF Yokohama Night)

Second event is supported by Red Bull, it is called Geared Up, it will take place on the port of Yokohama near the Symbol Tower.
It is a race for messengers I'll be there to take pictures for sure!

As the side event there will be a photo exhibition by Sexysushi, photos taken at the CMWC (Messenger World Championship) in Guatemala.

I can't wait for both of these events!

Hi Jerome, nice coverage!

I'm travelling to Japan in February, so it would be great if you could make these 'upcoming event' posts a regular thing! I'm hoping to check out the scene and maybe pick up some parts for a build :)

Since you are close with Fuji, do you happen to know if the 2011 Fuji x Tomato Pursuit-style bike is still going ahead? I saw it in a copy of Pedal Speed but have not been able to find much more information about it.

Thanks, great website!

Par KeithM à 2010-09-20 16:47:22

Awesome stuff,
I am also travelling to Japan, very soon!
Will be going on a track bike pilgrimage, and arrive on the 2nd of October, right when this Hama bike market gig is going on.

Don't suppose you could translate where/when it is on for a stupid Gaigin like me??

BlakeJ : thanks, I ll try to keep up with the updates, I missed many events myself so hopefully with the blog I won't anymore :-)

I am investigating for the Tomato-Fuji bike. It has been blogged here : http://klogr.blogspot.com/2009/09/fuji-x-tomato-pursuite-model-2011.html .
A 2 y.o blog post but announcing it for 2011 so...there is still a chance. I'll blog it if I have some news.

KeithM : ah indeed, the place is the Yokohama Creative City Center : http://www.yaf.or.jp/ycc/access/index.php from 11:00 to 19:00.

I guess you'll be able to have full information then at this location. Maybe see you there then!

Par KeithM à 2010-09-21 11:16:00

Hopefully,
I will be picking up my new bike in Osaka that morning then hopping the shinkansen to Tokyo, so If you see a 6 foot 4 dude on a lime green panasonic with a track disc and trispoke, say hi!

Keith M : Well if you're on my way I guess it will be hard to miss you :-)

Blake J : I got confirmation : Fuji x Tomato pursuit bike will be sold starting December at 120000 yens (before tax) only 100 bikes it seems. I found some pics here also : http://hashirin.com/archives/1094329.html

Par BlakeJ à 2010-09-21 21:06:47

Thanks for that info Jerome! 120,000 is quite expensive, I wonder if the frame is built in Japan or Taiwan like other Fuji bikes. It looks great, very aggressive.

Oh yeah, that Masi was in the last Loop I think. Great pics btw. I always love the random pics of people's custom bikes

You are right.

One of these days I am going to shoot just around where I currently work during lunch time, there are dozens of them (Harajuku to Omotesando)

Hi Jérome,

I was surfing for info on bikes, Rapha and Japan, and found your website. Great info and pictures...

I am taking a vacation to Japan in October for the second time with my family. The first time we went was back in 2002, and I hit a bunch of bike shops in Tokyo and Osaka. Back then, I was into retro road bikes (and still am), but I got my first fixie when I was in NYC (70's Motobecane).

Now, I am excited to get a Keirin track fixie and wanted to ask you about the Sekido market. Is it coming up in October? Would also appreciate any advice you have on cycle shops in Tokyo, Hiroshima worth visiting.

Cheers,

Jerry

Jerry : thanks!

and to answer your question, yes SekidoBashi Market will certainly take place as usual on the third Saturday of October which brings us to the 16th... which is not cool at all for me as it is the same day of the Red Bull messenger race in Yokohama where I wanted to take pics...damn... really bad timing... it is going to be a tough choice :/

Yes, the messenger race sounds cool. I guess for you, you will always have the market in Spring 2011.

I need to find a new handlebar for my Motobecane, but the 16th isn't the best day for me either. Will have to travel in from Himeji the night before...is the market worth it or should I just visit some Tokyo bike stores the week afterwards?

Colnago single speed.De Rosa toujours très classe.Classicisme... Lire la suite

GOPRO HD SUR MON VÉLO

[Cet article sera traduit en français....un jour ]Oooops...one month without any update, I think it's my "record" this year... It's not that I don't have anything to upload on the contrary but I was busy at work with UltraSuperNew building stuff for Red Bull Japan and I started to train for the Tokyo Marathon next February and I also started a personal side project :  an app/service for cyclists [I can't say too much now cause I am still in the early stage of development and I might change... VISITE DE VÉLOCISTE À TOKYO : DREAMWORKS CYCLES

[Cet article sera traduit en français....un jour ]I visited the shop few weeks ago, I used to work really close to it but not any more so it has been a while since my last visit. I thought you might like to see what there is in this incredible shop. There's always some awesome things to see and buy, especially if you are into NJS stuff. I was looking for Italian frames on a reader request, there was 2 of them, beautiful and BIG prices :-) Obviously it's cheaper in Europe.Brake Lever, in-house cu... Lire la suite

RED BULL : COURSE DE MESSENGER À YOKOHAMA

[Cet article sera traduit en français....un jour ]Here is a selection of about 50 photos (from 600...) I took last week-end at the Red Bull Geared-Up, an alley cat designed for messengers only where they were judged not only on their speed but also on their behavior towards clients, a kind of a role playing game that was quite fun, each messenger had to find something to attract the judges attention. Sino San during preparation. The race took place around the Symbol Tower in the port of Yokohama,... Lire la suite
