FILM PHOTOGRAPHY IN JAPAN (4)

Canonet GIII QL17

Something cool in the land of photography (a.k.a Japan) is that we can still enjoy film photography like before the digital era.

As you can see : the choice of films is still incredible! Fujifilm, Kodak, Ilford are all here in all kinds of format, ISO, color or black and white etc...
You can also purchase all the accessories to develop yourself your own film, I think I am going to try that for the black and white films. For now, I ask Yodobashi Camera to develop my films and to burn a CD (with a proper resolution). If I need/want a print of my photos, I can do it at home on my Canon Pixus printer.

My film camera is a rangefinder, a cheap one but it is quite cool and easy to use for a real amateur like me. It's the famous Canonet GIII QL 17 :

I have a black and white photos album here : Canonet GIII QL17 Album and will upload some color shots in a new album soon.

And you can enjoy the Canonet Flickr Group.

The film SLR or rangefinder can still do a very good job. In Ginza, there are some shops specialized in these old items. One of my favorite is レモン社 (Lemon Sha), it is at the 8th floor of a building (occupied by a church as well!) and they are specialized in Leica and other German brands. Their offer is amazing, the prices often also unfortunately ...

6 MONTHS

After 6 months away from the blog, I was not sure where to start again. I'm going for the easy solution :  a summary of these 6 past months.I use also this blog to remember what I've been up to and these past months were quite busy, so it's time to write it down before I forget...France  :For the first time in 4 years we went back to France to spend Christmas and New Year's Eve. A full month trip! I was very excited to go back to meet friends and family. Still over Japan, one girl... Read more

CP+ CAMERA AND GIRLS SHOW IN YOKOHAMA

Okay I am lying a bit, the real title is "CP+  Camera and Photo Imaging Show" :-)It was about one month ago and it was the first time I visit such an event dedicated to cameras. It turned out there was no major announcement concerning new cameras or gears but it was a nice afternoon among camera hobbyists and pros.Very difficult to tell who are the pros and who are the amateurs... Japan is not the country of photography for nothing and some amateurs possess gears that other pros can only dr... Read more

FREELANCE IN JAPAN AND NEW MAC BOOK PRO

After a little bit more than 3 years at Samurai Factory, I am now working as a freelancer (the ultimate goal is to be able to work from anywhere but that's an other story). I first thought it would be difficult for a gaijin (foreigner) but as long as you have a proper visa it is really easy. It might have been more difficult in my own country ! Even if I am a married guy with a Japanese national I am still holding my engineer visa which is valid until the end of this year. Surely I will swi... Read more

CGM NIGHT AT AKIHABARA

I could not attend the last CGM Night organized by Danny and Andrew so it was a while that I met some of my "CGM comrades". This time was a special Dollfie and Cosplay edition. I am pretty sure everyone knows what cosplay is. Dollfie, I am not sure. I am myself not familiar with it, but dollfie is a composition of "doll" and "figure", I guess the photos are quite explicit ;) It is quite popular in the Otaku world and not only for what I 've understood, more and more people seem to "fal... ABOUT TABLETS AND THE IPAD

I've read a lot about the iPad. Mostly either the authors point at the lack of functions to bash the product or on the contrary we have the fan boys comments. But I have yet to read someone describing what he would do with it or could not do with it and why. I am going to try that. Don't expect anything too much technical here though. Between September 2005 and June 2006, I had in my hands a TabletPC. The model was a Fujitsu and to go with it, was a blue-tooth keyboard and a [big] dock... Read more
