FIXED GEAR IN TOKYO (4)

Quite beautiful week-end here in Tokyo. Saturday I took the fixie for a ride. I first took it in a bag for about 20mn of train from Yokohama to Ôsaki.
You just need to put it in a bag to be allowed to bring it with you. I use my road race bike front wheel which is easier to remove.

It's a Campagnolo Zonda :). It was also the last day for the brake lever original set-up. As I use it only in fixed mode (I have a flip-flop hub), I removed the rear brake (but I will always keep the front brake).

Meguro river Tokyo

From there I followed the Meguro River (目黒川) for a while.

The season of the Hanami is almost finished and sakura are losing their flowers in a nice "snowing" style.

It even covers the river from place to place.

A bridge designed by Eiffel... hum... whatever...

Meguro Kawa Sakura Matsuri, written on the right : Cherry Blossom festival of Meguro (Black eye) River. Each lantern represents a business of the neighborhood, this one is the "Furuyama Dentist Clinic"'s lantern.

Ok enough for the site seeing for now, let's go back to some fixed gear stuff;)

Following the Meguro river and then the yamate dori (a road) I arrived to the place of my job in Shibuya Ku! I was surprised at it was a first with the bike on this way. (I did not know exactly where I was going... yeah a great adventure :)

So I went straight to Dreamworks Cycle which is 2 minute from Samurai Factory's office. Dreamworks Cycle is a tiny shop but almost a museum! The owner who also supports for technical stuff the Sexon Super Peace shop (just one street away), was busy to mount a nice fixed gear. His stuff is mainly from Europe, oldies but VERY goodies things!

You can't really notice it on this picture but this beautiful pist bike is a junior model coming from Italia, Torino :

If you are in Tokyo looking for collector items from Europe, it's definitely a place to go.

This brake lever is hand made by the shop's owner.

Then after a break for a late lunch under the sakura of Yoyogi parc, I decided to go to the Blue Lug shop and checked their handle bars and brake lever.

Here are few shots of their items, they have much more (and also a good clothes corner).

In that one picture with the Eddie Mercyx, the one with the mountain bike tires, was that 29er?

Honestly, I don't remember so well but you might be right. Also the front wheel of the Merckx is a 26 one.

浜バイク:夜の船のパーティ

Today I spent the day in Yokohama near the Symbol Tower, deep in the port of Yokohama where took place the Geared Up event.A kind of race for pro messengers supported by Red Bull and other brands for rewards. I'll develop that later in an other article. Thing is I took more than 600 photos! o_O. For now I propose you the last set of pics related to the Hama Bike event, that was 2 weeks ago.I did not have a ticket but thanks to COG magazine photographer/writer @esehama I could get a ticket fro th... 続きを見る

スタンドコンテストのビデオ

Track Stand contest on a boat: what a great idea! Being on a cruising boat obviously added some difficulties (there were waves).Congratulations to the winner, great balance skills!(some could barely stand on their own but I think it was not only due to the waves :-))More photos and videos of the party to come, probably tomorrow... 続きを見る

浜バイク - 日中

This is the "Photo report" from last week bicycle event in Yokohama. (announced here last month). Nice style but kind of heavy compared to my road race helmet...which is almost 10 years old...mmmI know they are more dedi... 続きを見る
