日本での日々の生活 - 7 (31)

No, I did not give up on this series of "Everyday Life in Japan". Last one was quite a while though, so the following is a collection of photos taken the last 2 months.
As usual here, no real common theme but just random shots I took from my day to day life...

Everyday life in Japan

Minato Mirai by Night.

Everyday life in Japan

I am never bored of this place.

Everyday life in Japan

And I guess I am not the only one.

Everyday life in Japan

Many groups of photographers come in the area to practice.

This one was taken from the Washington Hotel, an average comfortable, not expensive hotel and well located (near the Sakuragicho station).

Everyday life in Japan

In my neighborhood, this house was a ruin for the last 3 years (at least), finally they cleaned it. In 2 days there was nothing left.

Everyday life in Japan

Everyday life in Japan

We spent one night in a ryokan in our last trip in Tottori.

If you come to Japan, try to spend at least one night in this kind of hotel/pension.

Everyday life in Japan

An other random shot from the iPhone and tweeted at the time : a ganja t-shirt for 5 y.o kids in a well respected store :)

Everyday life in Japan

In a sushi restaurant, once you finished you have a chance to win something for each plate you ate.

Everyday life in Japan

I won this little samurai guy representing the restaurant brand.

Everyday life in Japan

Why have a dog or a cat as a pet when you can have a goat ?! [goat is yagi in Japanese]

Everyday life in Japan

Tottori style, I guess!

"The guy with the big case choose the steps... the guy with the small case the escalator... mmm What to think ?"
That some people are sissies, and some are not.

"Ramen, the first plate I offer to my relatives visiting Japan for the first time!"
Really? Don't Japanese people consider Ramen to be a Chinese dish?

"And what do they bring to me? Saucisson, for the win :)"
I know what you mean here. When I lived abroad, that was the thing I missed the most from France (with Cheese of course)

Don't Japanese people consider Ramen to be a Chinese dish?

You are right : looooooong time ago it cane from China, but now I asked my wife : Do you think Ramen as a Japanese meal and she answered "yes of course!" ;-) Actually one of reason I first offer Ramen is because it's on my way home :D

The zakkuro look just like pomegranates. Are they the same or close relatives?

I think it is exactly the same indeed...I checked on wikipedia ;-) It' s not a fruit I was familiar with (nothing like this in Normandy) therefore my ignorance... Just realized it was the fruit we call "grenade" in French...

Nice blog!! It was curious to see that Japanese also eat Grenades (Zakkuro), a fruit I thought was typical from Spain :D And the spider at Roppongi Hills resembles a lot the one there is next to the Guggenheim museun in Bilbao, Google it and you'll see!! Again, I liked your blog!! You got yourself a new reader lol

Welcome : )

I did not know at all about grenades (I only knew the name). I realized thanks to a previous comment that indeed zakuro = grenades...

As for the spider called "Maman" (!?) I just checked on wikipedia and indeed there are several of it in the world. It is the art work of Louise Bourgeois.

Wiki link : Maman by Louise Bourgeois.

Thanks for the info!

- Cadman - 2010-01-10 21:09:18

Is the ferris wheel that you have pictured the same one that was at the World's Fair in 2005 in Nagoya? I was there with the Toyota International Teacher Program!

- Cadman - 2010-01-10 21:22:50

I also have a photo of the strange building with the sphere. Mine is not very good. Taken from a tour bus in the fog. I always wondered what that building was.

Cadman : late answers sorry... but no the wheel is a "permanent resident" of Yokohama and has always been for what I know. I think it's the biggest in Japan...not 100% sure.

The building with the sphere is the Fuji TV Building in Odaiba.

LadyLaraJones : thanks -_-; Yes I use a Nikon D5000 and love it. Just checked your site, some nice contents also! Ganbare!

日本での日々の生活 - 9 - 日本の夏

Well it is more about *my* Japanese summer...How's your summer? Here it's probably my hottest summer since I've been living in Japan. It 's the first year the lack of AC is bit of a problem at home.I am still working at UltraSuperNew for some Red Bull projects and an other website for an Ayurveda clinic in Tokyo. We already released the keitai site for Red Bull Japan. Keitai meaning "mobile", this website runs only on traditional Japanese handset. For iPhone and Android, things will come a bit la... 続きを見る

三味線 - 1

How to play  Shamisen was something I wanted to learn even before I start to live in Japan. Well, it actually took some time, but today I had my first lesson! Yeah !!I am a guitar player (well, I mean like everyone~) and always had interest in strings instruments. When I visited Istanbul in 2004 I bought a baglama (pronounced balama) and had fun with it at home even if I never properly learned how to play it :-) A friend also offered me a valiha (pronounced "valee" if I remember well) from... 続きを見る

等々力渓谷

Looking for green in Tokyo ? Not difficult actually, there are many parcs and even with a bit of train you are quickly in the mountains. For example Takao San is about 1h from Shinjuku... I don't even mention if you take the Shinkansen... (then it is not even a question of time and distance but more of money...)Today I bring you to Todorokikeikoku just near Tokyo West part. It is just one stop after Jiyugaoka (on the  Oimachi line) which is also on the Tokyu - Toyoko line that starts from S... 続きを見る

日本での日々の生活 - 8

I just realized that the last episode of "Everyday Life in Japan" was as far as December! As Homer Simpson would say : "D'oh!" Yep, time is flying!!So it is much time for my random mix of snapshots in Tokyo and around. Most were taken with the Nikon D5000, and the bad looking ones were taken with the iPhone 3G.This lion is at the entrance of an old imperial building now used as an exhibition place.Just near in a café after the visit, I "stole" this shot of these 2 ladies in kimono. I  wonder... 続きを見る
