DAISEN - TOTTORI - JAPAN

[Photo by hfossli, his Flickr]. Daisen (大山, the Big Mountain) is the highest peak of Tottori with 1710m (and largest mountain in western Japan) and is one of the main attractive spot of Tottori, maybe as much as the famous dunes (Sakyu) in the east of the prefecture. It is my favorite place in Tottori and also for many Tottolar (nickname for people living in Tottori). I took this picture from the 植田正治写真美術館(ueda shouji shashin bijustukan : Ueda Shouji's photo muse... Read more

FOOD IN TOTTORI -JAPAN

I spent the last week in Tottori Ken, a prefecture in the west of Japan along the Sea of Japan. This is one of the first places I visited in Japan (as a wwoofer in 2005) and for some reasons I come back there about twice a year since *_* . Of course compared to Tokyo, Tottori is really the "deep" Japan far from the lights of Ginza. Over there, it's more usual to be a farmer, fisherman or a craftsman than a web developer... Let's start with the local mini-matsuri (festival). People pulling the ropes to carry the mikoshi and chanting at the same time. Yes it's not like the great festival of Gyon in Kyoto but it's nice to see that tradition perdure even at a sm... Read more

A SUNDAY MORNING IN KAMAKURA

(Kamakura Great Bouddha, picture taken last year) Last Sunday, we met Doug San (a.k.a Big Bouddha) in Kamakura Station, living near he knows many cool places and offered to guide us to his favourite places. We've already been in Kamakura many times but always in the main streets or easy to find temples. First to avoid the mass of people visiting each week-end Kamakura, we chose to meet at 8:30AM at the station. Kamakura is about 25mn from Yokohama. Luckily,in this morning, the weather... Read more
